Your Safety is Our Priority
The history of the vessels reflects the evolution of high-quality service. The M/V Tropical, the first ferry, carried 115 passengers on a 1 hour and 45 minute trip. Then M/V Tropical II took its place, carrying 365 passengers and reducing the trip time to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
In August 2006, the Galaxy Wave, a 152-foot catamaran designed by Incat Crowther of Australia and built in New Orleans by Gulf Craft, was welcomed. With a modern jet propulsion engine system, the Galaxy Wave carries 460 passengers in a record time of 1 hour and 10 minutes, offering a faster, more comfortable, and more efficient trip. In 2012, Tropical Wave, a 150-foot catamaran with a capacity of 350 passengers, joined Galaxy Wave to cover all the routes that Roatán Ferry covers: Roatán, Utila, Guanaja, and La Ceiba.
Your Safety is Our Priority
At Roatán Ferry, we know that your peace of mind when traveling is as important as the adventure of traveling itself. That's why every crossing between our destinations is carried out under strict safety standards that guarantee confidence and comfort at all times.
Galaxy Wave and Tropical Wave were built in accordance with US Coast Guard specifications and controls and are officially certified by the Honduran Merchant Marine Agency. Maintenance of the vessels is carried out by CATEP-certified technicians, and the vessels undergo regular safety inspections to ensure that they are always seaworthy.
All necessary safety equipment is on board: more than 600 life jackets and 24 emergency rafts with a capacity of 25 passengers per raft. In addition, no more passengers than the certified capacity of the boat are ever accepted. Your safety is Roatán Ferry's top priority.
In addition to being equipped with modern navigation systems, both vessels have captains and first officers with all the training and certification required by the Honduran Merchant Marine Agency. All personnel on board have been trained in first aid by the Roatán Red Cross, ensuring that each trip is not only reliable but also safe and prepared for any eventuality.
